The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has asked the Director General of Police to explain why CCTV cameras installed in South Garo Hills are not functioning.
In a letter to the DGP, ACHIK said that CCTV cameras should be installed in court complexes and important locations in at least two districts in every state or Union territory, as per a Supreme Court directive in 2017.
While cameras were installed in South Garo Hills, they remain non-functional, defeating the purpose, ACHIK claimed.
“The installation of CCTV cameras was intended to enhance security, monitor court proceedings, and maintain law and order. However, the non-functional cameras have compromised the safety and security of the citizens, particularly in the judicial precinct,” the pressure group said. “This is a serious lapse in the maintenance and upkeep of critical infrastructure.”
