With the objective to eliminate Tuberculosis (TB), the District Tuberculosis Office, Ri Bhoi District conducted a sensitization programme on the disease among the industries groups at K. R. Pollymers industry in Umiam today.
Medical Officer Tuberculosis Centre, Umsning Dr. W. Chyne informed about the health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis. He informed about its sign and symptoms, the general symptoms which include cough with or without blood, weight loss, fever and night sweats.
Dr Chyne said testing for tuberculosis is free and anyone can visit the nearest government testing centre. He added that people have a vital role in eliminating the disease.
District TB Officer, Dr. E. Kalwing said most TB patients are from the poor and vulnerable families. She said in order to eliminate the disease the health department cannot do it alone without the support from all the individuals groups and hence each citizen has to strive towards working hand in hand for a TB-free district.
She also urged people to support patients with the disease by enrolling them at the Nikshay Mitra portal.
The programme was also attended by L. Rajee STS, Umsning TU, representative from different industries group of Umiam areas and other health officials.
