A public deliberation on ‘Peace and Justice in Meghalaya’ has been called by social activists in the state at Don Bosco Youth Centre on November 28 at 2 pm.
The programme is being called by social activists, Angela Rangad and Agnes Kharshiing who have urged concerned citizens of Meghalaya, troubled by the recent incidents of violence committed “by the State and the non-state actors.”
“Whether it is the death of six people in the police firing by Assam Police or various incidents of targeted violence that accompanied various public protests, the culture of impunity seems to have become the order of the day,” he activists said.
Stating that the politics of violence have started thriving because citizens do not question the perpetrators and the institutions that nurture this, they said it is important for people who believe in peace, justice and human rights to come together and share ideas and concerns regarding the breakdown of peace in the State. “Voices of peace and pluralism needs to be heard,” they added.
Urging people to attend the deliberation they said, “Meghalaya is sought to being turned into a rogue state affecting our livelihoods and democratic governance.
