The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya rescued 13 cattle before they could be spirited over the international border into Bangladesh and arrested four Indian nationals suspected of being involved in the alleged smuggling attempt.
On Saturday, personnel of the 110th Battalion stopped three vehicles loaded with 13 cattle near the international border in East Khasi Hills. Upon questioning, the four Indian nationals “failed to justify the possession of the cattle” and were detained, a press release informed today.
Separate, in another operation on Saturday based on specific information, troops of the 172 Battalion apprehended a Bangladeshi intruder identified as Shamsuddin, from Sylhet, on the Indian side of the border in East Jaintia Hills while he was trying to infiltrate into Indian territory.
The apprehended Indian nationals along with cattle, seized vehicles and the Bangladeshi national were handed over to police for further investigation and legal action.
