Acting on specific tip-off, troops of the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya seized clothing items, namely sarees, worth Rs 13 lakh while being smuggled to Bangladesh from the border area of East Khasi Hills yesterday.
The consignment was seized by troops of the Pyrdiwah border outpost when the miscreants were trying to cross over to Bangladesh. On being challenged by the BSF personnel, the smugglers fled from the spot leaving behind their head loads by taking advantage of thick vegetation and undulating terrain.
Eight bundles of clothes were found from the spot. The seized items were handed over to the concerned customs office for further action.
