Ri Bhoi traffic police have launched a crackdown against street racing by two-wheelers and other violations such as riding without helmets and valid documents.
The national highway 6 has become a hot spot for riders to indulge in over speeding that led to many accidents.
“In the past three days over 15 motor vehicle accidents have taken place in Ri Bhoi,” Sub Inspector of Nongpoh Police Traffic Branch, B. Thangkhiew informed.
The check conducted today was to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians. Police said that the crackdown against stunt riding and other traffic violations will be stepped up and that the offenders, who put others’ lives in danger in addition to their own, will be taken to task.
During the checking, police detected many riders not wearing helmets, those without driving licence and riding on the wrong side. The total number of violators will be issued to the media, as checking continues.
“All failing to abide by the traffic rules will be booked as per the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act,” police said.
