Shillong, Sep 3: Frequent power cuts in the Lum Mawnei locality within Mawlai have seriously inconvenienced residents, prompting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mawlai mandal to step in to seek a permanent resolution.
Members visited the Meghalaya Energy Corp Ltd (MeECL) Area Manager for Mawlai Nongkwar and subsequently the MeECL Director of Distribution, Lumjingshai, to air their grievances.
In a memorandum, the mandal highlighted noticeable problems including frequent power cuts at Lum Mawnei and absence of dedicated line staff who can attend exclusively to Mawlai. It said the current staff also look after municipality areas thereby causing inordinate delay in restoring supply in case of breakdown, which happens frequently.
The memorandum also mentioned that a dedicated vehicle should be assigned to Mawlai so complaints can be redressed without delay. The director assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up on priority to find a solution to the problem faced by the locality.
