The State BJP is relying on its vice president Bernard Marak to ensure the party secures the Gambegre seat in the by-election.
State BJP president Rikman Momin sang praises about the “hard work” of his vice president and stated, “He is showing the way to the people what the central government is doing,” and the party now stands a good chance to win the by-poll.
According to Momin, Marak is vocal against the anomalies in implementation of central schemes by the state government like Jal Jeevan Mission and Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Though Marak has shown keen interest to contest, the State BJP president said the party is yet to call for applications from aspiring candidates.
Momin said out of the 51 polling stations under Gambegre constituency, the BJP has completed its booth level work in 48 of them.
Earlier, the Meghalaya BJP launched a ‘Sadysyata Abhiyan’ – membership drive at its state office in Bivar Road.
A specially scripted campaign song and video was also launched on the occasion.
Momin informed that the state BJP is targeting to enrol 2 lakh members. The party in 2014 had only 33,000 members which grew to 1.4 lakh in 2019, he added.
