Tura MDC and state Bharatiya Janata Party vice-president Bernard N Marak has termed the condition of National Highway 51 a shame.
In a statement today, he said the authorities should ensure that the road is repaired immediately and the officers on duty should not neglect the potholes and cracks that are visible while traveling on NH-51, which have gone from good to worse in the last few months.
He said that there was no sign of blacktopping as most of the better parts had been washed away during the rains because the quality was compromised.
“Sand gravel and potholes which are of minimum 5 inches pose a danger to the travelers. It’s also sad that a small portion of the motorable roads were now back to 19th century roads, all due to negligence. The road never got better because some tainted company was given the work and there was no proper monitoring by the authorities. This road is a shame to NHAI,” he said.
