The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has demanded the district council to make a thorough preparation and take the suggestions of all concerned stakeholders on board in relation to the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution to avoid any kind of problem.
Reminding that KHNAM has earlier suggested the removal of Para 12 (a), that there should be no clause that empowers the state or central government to interfere in matters of the District Council, KHNAM leader Thomas Passah also said that they have also suggested not to alter the name from Autonomous to Territorial Council.
He also reminded to prevent the unrepresented tribes from becoming members (MDC) in the district council.
He further stated that the district council should first put the various suggestions it has received in the public domain before it sends its proposal to the center to avoid any blunder.
He also expressed apprehension that the amendment of the sixth schedule is with a desire of the central government to mine Uranium in the state.
He further added that they look forward to the council convening an all-political party meeting before taking a final decision on the matter.
