Rajya Sabha MP WR Kharlukhi has raised concerns on problems of unemployment and emphasised on people to create opportunities for themselves and others.
Addressing the 53rd NSS foundation day here at the Multi Use Convention Hall in NEHU, Kharlukhi said, “Let us not be job seekers but job providers”.
He said the only way to get out of the vicious cycles of seeking employment is to create opportunities for themselves. He also urged the NSS volunteers to spread the message and educate people to create employment opportunities for themselves and others.
NEHU vice chancellor Prof. P.S. Shukla highlighted how NSS volunteers are preserving the culture in Meghalaya and North Eastern States. “Youth are the pillars of the society and if the young minds become selfish the whole society might collapse,” he said.
He also pointed out how NSS is a linkage between the educational institutions and the society and also provides opportunity to the students to understand better and relate themselves with the society to find better solutions.
A brief introduction of the NSS Cell, NEHU was also presented by programme coordinator, Dr. M.M. Khymdeit and State NSS officer, F. Rumnong spoke on the history of NSS in the country and Meghalaya.
Rumnong mentioned about the importance of NSS in various institutions such as higher secondary, colleges and universities level. He spoke about how it helped in developing and building the personality and character of students.
He further informed about the upcoming programmes to be held in Shillong such as Pre RD parade camp and North East Youth Festival and emphasised on the importance to promote NSS State Festivals and State NSS Award.
The SNO also mentioned about the need of giving weightage and incentives to NSS volunteers so that it will be helpful for the students to avail jobs and importance of enhancing skill through NSS.
During the occasion the University Level Awards, 2022 were conferred to NSS units for recognition of their commendable service to community.
The Best NSS Unit, 2022 was conferred to NSS Unit Ri-Bhoi College, Best NSS Programme Officers were conferred to Iasuklang Kharumnuid, St. Mary’s College, Shillong and Yomica V. Syiemlieh, Ri-Bhoi College, Nongpoh.
The Best NSS Volunteers were conferred to. Naphisharoi Kharbuli of NSS Unit, NEHU, Shillong, Kerdarilin Khongwir of NSS Unit, Lady Keane College, Shillong, Armstrong Lyngdoh of NSS Unit, Ri-Bhoi College, Nongpoh, Suklang Paul Kurbah of NSS Unit, NEHU, Shillong and Pyndemlang Lyting of NSS Unit, Shillong College, Shillong.
The programme was attended by more than 1000 NSS volunteers from various educational institutions throughout the State.
