Shillong, May 16: An awareness and outreach programme focusing on the new Income Tax Bill 2025 was held in Shillong as part of the nationwide campaign “Prarambh 2026.”
Organised by the Income Tax Department, the initiative aims to educate the public on the provisions, reforms, and taxpayer-friendly features of the legislation.
Officials from the Income Tax Department, taxpayers, students, and representatives from various institutions attended the programme. The aim was to enhance understanding among stakeholders regarding the reforms proposed in the Income Tax Bill and to promote engagement through open discussions.
Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Imokaba Jamir noted that “Prarambh 2026” represents a fresh start in simplifying direct tax laws to make them more accessible.
The new Income Tax Bill seeks to reduce complexity by decreasing the number of tax sections, rules, and forms significantly. This simplification is designed to improve readability and taxpayer convenience, reaffirming that there are no changes in tax policy or rates. Additionally, important provisions such as the exemption for tribal communities in North East states remain unchanged.
The outreach program encouraged participants to actively engage and address queries about the new framework and its implications.
