In a case of retaliation to the Mukroh firing incident, a private car bearing an Assam registration number was torched by miscreants at Mahavir Park in Jhalupara here today evening.
The incident took place at around 7:30pm. Fire service personnel who rushed to the spot were able to douse the fire that had engulfed the Mahindra Scorpio (AS 01 DK 5958).
Members of the HITO also today stopped all vehicles bearing Assam registration numbers at Mawiong Rim viewpoint and asked them to go back.
According to the HITO members, the step was taken for the safety of innocent visitors and tourists in view of the current situation arising out of the Mukroh incident.
Meanwhile, the KSU today decided to launch a series of agitations in the State as a mark of protest to the Mukroh incident.
The students’ body said that tomorrow ‘Black Flag Day’ will be observed in the entire Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
Meanwhile, to show solidarity with the victims of the Mukroh incident, the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone along with its partner NGOs from Garo Hills will observe a ‘Black Day’ tomorrow.
“All parts of Garo Hills will raise black flags as a sign of protest against the excesses of the Assam Police,” the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone said today.
