The A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) held its tenth Winter Capital Meeting yesterday at Raksamgre in West Garo Hills.
Representatives from various villages participated in the meeting and contributed their perspectives and insights.
The ASPF and other like minded organisations are pushing for Tura to be named as the second capital of Meghalaya, arguing that this was an unwritten promise when the state was carved out of Assam in 1972 and will have the benefit of bringing the administration closer to the people of Garo Hills.
Advocate Bernita Marak provided a comprehensive briefing on the concept of a Winter Capital and its potential benefits for the Garo Hills region. Balkarin Marak underscored the necessity of unity at this critical juncture, emphasising the collective effort required to realise the goals promised by the founders of Meghalaya.
The meeting concluded with a call to action from Witjeng Marak, the president of the Constitutional Rights Forum (CRF), who encouraged the general public to unite and collaborate toward advancing the interests of the Garo Hills region in the future.
