Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), who form the grassroots backbone of the healthcare system, are not being paid incentives that they are entitled to, the A’chik Organisation for Social Welfare (AOSW) said today.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, the AOSW said that ASHAs are entitled to financial incentives when making home visits to check on the health of newborns, for de-worming programmes, marketing of contraceptives, spreading awareness on menstrual hygiene, etc.
ASHAs are also lacking life insurance, accident insurance and pensions, the AOSW said.
