The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya apprehended another four Indian nationals who were transporting edible items near the Bangladesh border.
The BSF suspects that the four intended on smuggling the items into the neighbouring country through East Khasi Hills.
The seizure was made yesterday when the BSF acted on specific information regarding a consignment of sugar being transported on four vehicles to Shella via Ichamati. Personnel of the 110th Battalion of the BSF stopped the four vehicles, three of which were carrying sugar and the one carrying garlic. The value of the goods was estimated at Rs 10 lakh.
The drivers had no documentation to prove the validity of the shipment and it was thus seized, the vehicles impounded and the drivers detained. They were handed over to the Bholaganj Customs office.
