Opposition MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh has lashed out at the state government for wasting precious doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
According to Union Health Ministry data, Meghalaya declared that 5.67 percent of vaccine doses were discarded. This comes just after Health Minister AL Hek said that the state has even stock of vaccines to last only another week.
“When you open a consignment of Covid-19 vaccines you should have an ordered line of bookings and only administer the vaccine once you have enough people to complete the doses. What is happening in Meghalaya is that it (the vaccine) is going randomly to the centre where they simply take out the Covid vaccine doses and administer them without calculating the number of beneficiaries even though they know that the doses are a very rare product,” Lyngdoh told Highland Post today.
She also questioned whether the statistics provided by the state government on the number of people who have received the jab in the state are accurate or inflated to suit the government.
The Congress legislator expressed concern that the shortage of doses could lead to people who are scheduled to take their second dose having to wait longer and this could have some medical impact.
