Amendment to the rules governing the Special Rural Works Programme (SWRP) fund will enable MLAs to allocate a specific amount for prompt relief to families affected by calamities.
This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma during the question hour today.
The statement was made during the reply of Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Kyrmen Shylla to the question raised by Mawryngkneng MLA, Heaving Stone Kharpran on assistance to two families affected in a fire incident.
Umroi MLA, Celestine Lyngdoh had suggested keeping a contingency fund to help families affected by calamities.
The Chief Minister said during an MDA meeting recently, some MLAs had also made the same suggestion. “Though we may not be able to create a separate contingency fund immediately because it will have financial impact. What we are working on is to amend the rules of the SRWP to allow flexibility to use the fund as and when required.”
Earlier, Shylla informed that financial Assistance has been paid to the two affected families of Banteiskhem Kharumnuid and Rina Marboh. “Each beneficiary has received an amount of 1 lakh 35 thousand rupees through the Public Financial Management System (PMS),” he said.
