In view of the general elections to the Lok Sabha, the District Election Officer of East Khasi Hills has ordered that all educational institutions, both private and government, must remain closed on Thursday in Shillong urban areas.
Meghalaya will go to the polls on Friday but the day before will be when polling parties move to their respective places of duty for the election. Many educational institutions will be used as polling stations on Friday.
Closing the schools, colleges and other institutions will also likely reduce traffic, making it easier for polling parties to travel.
