Eight companies of paramilitary forces have been allocated to bolster the police force for the general election to the Lok Sabha, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Rituraj Ravi informed today.
Elaborate arrangements have been made at different polling stations in Shillong city and all across the district. He also expressed confidence that the election will be held in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Meghalaya will go to the polls on Friday but counting will only take place on June 4, along with the rest of the country.
There will be three-tier security at the strong room where the electronic voting machines will be stored until counting day and separate arrangements have been made for polling stations. The SP said that there are different categories of polling station depending on the vulnerability of each and necessary arrangements have been made in each case.
“We have eight companies of CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces), which have been deployed for different roles like strong room duty, polling station duty, area domination and we are also conducting flag marches and road marches to instill confidence and a sense of security among the citizens,” informed Ravi.
Concerning the pre-poll measures, he said that flying squad teams and static surveillance teams do continuous round the clock checking and cover all campaigning activities. All thanas are also checking vehicles round the clock to clamp down on violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
