Acting on a tip-off, Ri-Bhoi police seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) ahead of the upcoming election to be held on February 27. Three people were arrested in connection with the case.
According to police sources, information was received that a consignment of illegal currency would be made and, therefore, police began checking vehicles and intercepted a taxi and scooty at Umsning.
The FICN seized had a face value of Rs 2.48 lakh. Three ATM cards and four mobile phones were also seized from the suspects, who were identified as Conglalsang Simte from Lumpyngngad, Noni Boro from Sundarpur, Assam, and Lalnuntluangi from Aizawl.
A police case has been registered against the three accused and further investigations are ongoing.
