Following backlash from the Garo Hills region, the State government has decided to call for fresh advertisement for the recruitment of Mid-Level Health Providers (MLHP).
People in Garo Hills are unhappy with the recruitment as they say there was no equal opportunity given for candidates to apply for the job.
Earlier, a conglomeration of pressure groups from Garo Hills met Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh today and demanded to put on hold the appointment of MLHP and to initiate an inquiry on the recruitment process.
According to the FKJGP (Garo Hills) president, Pritam Arengh said it was shocking that not a single Garo candidate was selected though there were vacancies against the job.
He also said that they also found another circular (Memo No DHS/MCH&FW/NHM/MLHP/20/2023(11), dated 11.08.2023) with instructions that in order to fill up the vacant positions of MLHP at the Health and Wellness Centres the applicants will have to undergo verification of documents and counselling on August 17, 2023 even as no advertisement circular was available for the position. This, he said, was in clear violation of the existing recruitment procedures laid down by the State government.
He said the Mission Director of NHM has passed an arbitrary order and acted upon his own will which will have irreparable ramifications in the future.
The members of the organisation were accompanied by PHE Minister Marcuise Marak and Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma for a discussion with the Health Minister.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh said that the recent MLHP selection was a campus recruitment in NEIGRIHMS and Woodland Hospital and the Health Department overlooked that other people from other institutions could have had similar qualifications to apply for MHLP posts.
“The department has engaged again and brought out an advertisement that will encompass and give opportunities to individuals who likely pass out from these two institutions, and this interview will be held in Tura on September 12,” she said.
