The East Khasi Hills district administration has banned the collection of toll by Hima Sohra from export trucks entering the Majai land custom station.
In an order issued today, East Khasi Hills district magistrate S C Sadhu said that collection of toll by Hima Sohra at Rs 400 per truck at Majai may lead to law and order situation.
The district magistrate also said that plying of limestone export trucks from Umdud to Zero Point Road, part of the route leading to Majai land custom station, was stopped by the residents of Majai.
He also said that the exporters have agreed to voluntarily stop the plying of trucks till an amicable solution is arrived at between the Dorbar Shnong of Majai and the Syiem of Sohra.
“The Meghalaya government has taken a firm stand and adopted a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards the existence of any illegal collection of toll/check gate or forcible collection from traffic plying along the national highways, State highways and major district roads of East Khasi Hills,” the order said.
The order also banned all collection of toll in the entire East Khasi Hills district.
