Candidates contesting the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council will not have the liberty to choreographed campaign events to impress voters in Mawlai constituency except for common platforms to be conducted by the dorbar heads.
This decision was taken unanimously by the Mawlai Town Dorbar (MTD) and the contenders running the district council polls at a meeting held at Mawlai Kynton Massar today.
MTD Secretary Marco Mitri, said that these common platforms will be held in all the areas of Mawlai. “The MTD and the candidates feel that we will not hold a public meeting and make spectacle in this upcoming election,” he said.
“The reason is that we don’t want to disturb the students who are preparing for various examinations,” he added.
He also said that even during the common platforms, the public will not be allowed to carry flags to the meetings except for the candidates themselves.
Mitri said that in the common platform meetings, the speakers will be only the candidates and such meetings will be conducted by the rangbah shnong and secretary.
The KHADC and the JHADC go to polls on February 21 and the counting of votes will be held on February 24.
