The Achik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has demanded for an immediate and impartial investigation into the attack on Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Numal Momin.
In a letter to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Garo group sought for action to ensure the safety and security of all members of the Assembly and to prevent recurrence of such violent acts.
ACHIK said the assault by Congress MLA Nurul Huda is not only a blatant attack on an elected public representative but also a severe blow to the democratic principles upheld by the nation.
“Dr. Numal Momin has been a steadfast voice for the people of Assam, particularly representing the interest and concerns of the indigenous communities, including the Garos. The physical aggression against him within the sanctum of the Legislative Assembly is unacceptable and must be addressed with the utmost seriousness,” the group said, adding that such an incident undermines the dignity of democratic institutions and sets a dangerous precedent that cannot be ignored.
