Chairman of the Meghalaya State Planning Board and Mairang MLA Metbah Lyngdoh inaugurated the new extension building of the Holy Cross Health Centre at Pyndengumiong village in Eastern West Khasi Hills District.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Anita Kharpor, Superintendent of Police Dangsan Khyriem, Additional Deputy Commissioner M. Diengdoh, Fr. Venky Friding Kharsyiemiong, Headmen of Pyndengumiong Bornad Syiemiong, Sisters, doctors, hospital staff, and other invited guests.
Speaking at the function, Lyngdoh praised the Holy Cross Health Centre for its crucial role in delivering healthcare services, particularly to the poor.
As a representative of a rural constituency, Lyngdoh shared his personal experience of witnessing the pain, challenges, and hardships faced by people living in remote areas. He emphasised the vital role of mission hospitals like Holy Cross Health Centre in the state’s healthcare landscape.
Lyngdoh highlighted the struggles of underprivileged patients, who often have to mortgage their land or borrow money from neighbours to access basic healthcare. He contrasted this with those who can afford private care, for whom medical treatment is more manageable.
The inauguration of the new extension building is expected to enhance the healthcare services provided by the Holy Cross Health Centre, benefiting the local community and underscoring the importance of accessible healthcare for all.
