More than fifty differently-abled people from across the West Jaintia Hills district participated in a one-day registration cum counselling camp jointly organized by the National Career Service Centre for Differently-Abled (NCSC-DA), under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The camp was jointly organized by the Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) and the NCSC-DA at HK Singh Memorial School and was attended by parents and caretakers of the differently-abled people.
NCSC-DA Rehabilitation Officer D. Biswas briefed the participants about the various schemes and support provided by both the state and central governments.
During the question-and-answer session, several differently-abled participants shared their thoughts and queries. Notable contributors included Bisharlang Tariang, Gladliness Shylla, Krishna Phawa, Heiioobitmitre Dhar, and Durka Sari.
Kelvin Suting, a visually impaired participant, expressed that he had learned a lot from the camp. Bisharlang Tariang mentioned that he plans to avail himself of the opportunities provided by the government to enhance the business he has already started. Ngalong Sukhlain, who has no lower limbs but works as a mobile phone repair mechanic, said he will seek assistance from the organization to start his own mobile phone repair unit.
SURE secretary Dr. H.H. Mohrmen was also present during the programme.
