The Border Security Force (BSF) seized more than 5 tonnes of garlic before it could be smuggled across the international border into Bangladesh, it was informed today.
The incident took place today. In a separate matter, 40 cattle were seized by the force before they could be smuggled into the neighbouring country.
The operations resulted in the seizure of two pickups with the consignments valued at more than Rs 15 lakh.
Based on specific information, two pickups were intercepted by 22 Battalion BSF deployed near the international border in South Garo Hills. The BSF troops intercepted the vehicles (ML 08K 3955 and AS 18AC 7177) loaded with 40 cattle. The vehicles and cattle were handed over to the concerned police station for further necessary action.
In another operation, alert troops from the 110 Battalion BSF seized 5.32 tonnes of garlic near the international border in East Khasi Hills. The garlic was concealed in a jungle area near the border. The seized garlic was handed over to the concerned customs office for further necessary action.
