A driver was killed when a truck he was driving overturned at Umsning by-pass in Ri Bhoi district at 2 pm today.
The truck bearing registration number AS-01-RC-0613 was transporting waste from Guwahati to be dumped in Jaintia Hills.
The deceased has been identified as Dawni Dkhar of Madur village in East Jaintia Hills. The helper, one Ericson Swer of Ummulong village, West Jaintia Hills sustained injuries.
Over speeding has been attributed to the cause of the accident. Police said the vehicle hit a barrier and veer onto another road and overturned.
The body of the deceased was taken to Civil Hospital Nongpoh for a post-mortem examination, while the injured helper was transported to CHC Umsning for medical treatment.
