To raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO), in collaboration with the District Sports Office (DSO) and the West Jaintia Adventure and Cycling Association, organized a bike/cycle rally today.
This initiative was part of the global observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a day dedicated to strengthening action and cooperation in achieving a country or a state free of drug abuse.
The event kicked off with an informative awareness program aimed at educating participants and the local community about the perils of drug addiction and the importance of a drug-free lifestyle.
The rally was flagged off with great enthusiasm. Cyclists adorned with banners promoting a drug-free society, pedalled their way through the main streets and all the localities of Jowai Town. The participants, a mix of seasoned cyclists and enthusiastic newcomers, showcased unity and determination in spreading the message.
Volunteers and participants distributed informative pamphlets with vital information about the harmful effects of drugs, ways to seek help for addiction, and contact details of local support groups and help lines. The distribution aimed to educate the broader community and provide resources for those in need of assistance.
