The office of the District Mental Health Programme in tandem with the District Legal Services Authority of North Garo Hills today observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Manikganj Secondary School in Mendipathar.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jude RT Sangma apprised the gathering of students on the harmful effects of drugs; how drugs shorten one’s life and the burden a drug user imposes upon his/her family. He encouraged the students to focus on their academic learning and invest in sports activities.
Speaking as the guest of honour, NGH’s Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma urged the gathering to stay away from drugs and highlighted various rules under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) 1985.
Dr RK Sangma, District Nodal Officer of the DMHP, dwelt on the Information Education Communication (IEC) of blood donation.
