Three pressure groups have written to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who holds the Public Works Department portfolio, over the “deplorable condition” of the Selsella to Balachanda road.
The letter was signed by the A’chik Students’ Welfare Association (ASWA), Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and Garo Students’ Union (GSU).
The road in question has deteriorated significantly over time, posing grave concern for the safety and well-being of the residents and commuters in the region, they told Tynsong. The road is riddled with numerous potholes and damage, making it extremely hazardous for vehicular traffic. Furthermore, the presence of multiple potholes exacerbates the situation, increasing the risk of accidents and damage to vehicles.
The poor condition also deters potential tourists and investors from exploring the scenic beauty and economic opportunities in the region.
The signatories listed four points, namely to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the road to ascertain the extent of damage and identify the areas requiring immediate attention, allocate sufficient funds for the repair and maintenance, ensure timely execution of repair work while maintaining standards and adhering to safety protocols, and implement measures for regular maintenance and monitoring of the road’s condition.
