      Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma flagged off the NCC’s Northeastern Region Car Rally from U Soso Tham Auditorium here today.

      A total of 277 schools, 151 colleges, 44 districts, spanning across six states, all united in the spirit of NCC are taking part in the car rally which aims for a sense of camaraderie, leadership, spirit of sportsmanship, spirit of adventure and imbibe the spirit of patriotism among the youth, inspiring them to uphold the values that NCC stands for.

      The car rally organized is part of a special outreach program of the NCC to celebrate its 75th year anniversary. The rally will culminate on November 26 in Guwahati.

      In his address , the Chief Minister lauded the contribution of NCC in nation building, appreciated the cultural program performed by the cadets and encouraged them  to do well.

      “The car rally is significant and meaningful as it provides our youth an opportunity to meet people from other regions. This in turn would expose them to different types of people belonging to various occupations, culture, language and ethnicity and in turn would bring in National Integration, unity, understanding and respect for one another,” the Chief Minister said.

      Sangma also said that the youth are our greatest resource as our nation has a large young population. He also emphasized that if the energy of our youth is channelled correctly, they can be a force to be reckoned with.

      Chairman of Meghalaya State Planning Board, Metbah Lyngdoh, Major General Gagan Deep, ADG, NCC Directorate Northeastern Region, Ram Suresh Akella, Executive Director of Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Commissioner Secretary, Director General of Meghalaya Police, District Commissioner East Khasi Hills and other officials of the Armed Forces were also present.
