Shillong, Oct 15: The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)-sponsored ten-day Research Methodology Course (RMC) organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, NEHU, concluded Thursday.
Addressing valedictory function, IQAC Director Prof B Panda said research technique is about justification.
“Any research technique you may apply is right, but you have to justify it. There is nothing right or wrong in research, it is an ability to think and question,” he said. “Research as a process shall develop a researcher,” he added, urging ethical commitment and making work available to communities.
The course began on October 5 with 30 participants from Bihar, J&K, Nagaland, Chhattisgarh, Assam and Meghalaya.
Course convenor Prof Manash Pratim Goswami said scholars were trained to approach problems holistically.
Co-convenor Dr Kamaljit K Chirom said training combined lectures with hands-on sessions on philosophical foundations, qualitative and quantitative methods embedded in Indian Knowledge System, statistics, hypothesis testing, SEM, and software like SPSS, Jamovi, ADANCO and Python.
Participants also visited NEHU Central Library for e-resources, ONOS initiative, plagiarism and publication quality, and field visits to Laitlum and Smit, traditional seat of Hima Khyrim, interacting with custodians on customary governance, oral traditions and Nongkrem festival, developing proposals on tourism, conservation and customary law.
Participant Tonoya Bharadwaj said the course broadened horizons, while Shubham Kumar Shah said it gave clarity from basic to advanced tools.
