Shillong, Oct 8: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has expressed deep anguish over the alleged harassment of a woman from Nagaland in Delhi, calling the targeting of people from the Northeast shameful.
In a post on X, Sangma said he was deeply disturbed by the incident and asked Delhi Police to act strictly against the accused.
The incident occurred on October 4 at around 3:30 am in Chanakyapuri, where the woman alleged that three men in a white Mercedes harassed her and tried to drag her into the car. Her friends who tried to rescue her were allegedly assaulted with hockey sticks and rods.
Delhi Police have registered a case and arrested three persons. CCTV footage is being examined to verify the sequence of events and the abduction charge.
The episode has once again sparked concerns over racial harassment and safety of people from the Northeast in the national capital.
