A total of 44 dengue cases have been detected in Meghalaya and one has died of the disease.
Dengue fever which is a mosquito-borne tropical disease is predominantly present in the plain belt areas of the Garo Hills region.
Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh informed that seven tests were conducted out of which, two came out positive of the disease yesterday.
“We are able to contain the cases and whoever has contacted dengue has been given the correct treatment as required we do not anticipate the cases will grow,” she said, adding that the reported cases could have surfaced due to floods and rain.
Lyngdoh said that the department has alerted all districts to follow SOPs, involve the communities and the dorbars and medical block offices to take immediate action where dengue case is reported.
She also urged citizens not to panic but take necessary precautions by visiting nearest testing centre if they have prolonged fever so they acquire the right treatment.
