The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) organized a seminar on “Bioeconomy from Bioresources-Promoting Bio-entrepreneurship in North Eastern Region” at 6th Mile, Upper Shillong.
During the programme, IBSD Director Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee highlighted various initiatives of IBSD for promoting entrepreneurs including traditional healers, women entrepreneurs, farmers and students of this region.
He informed that IBSD has setup BioNEST incubator at Shillong for the development of women entrepreneurs through orchid floriculture in Meghalaya. He said the institute has organised several such programmes including webinars, seminars, industry-connect programmes, traditional healers meet, trainings &workshops for farmers, traditional healers and local entrepreneurs of the region.
Mukherjee also highlighted about the various outreach activities of IBSD under the programme on bioeconomy from bioresources.
During the programme, Former Vice Chancellor of Central University of Tamil Nadu, Prof. A. P. Dash highlighted various scientific interventions in India which has direct impact for societal benefit. He mentioned various opportunities for students/ researchers of the North East for entrepreneur development from bioresources.
North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy Director, Dr. Neeta Mahesekar highlighted traditional healers knowledge of the region for the development of bioeconomy.
Dr. Probodh Borah Professor at the Assam Agriculture University highlighted various initiatives for the development of products, processes, technologies from different animal resources to promote startups in the region while Dr. Neelam Rani, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Management, Shillong highlighted various case studies of entrepreneur’s development from bioresources.
The programme was attended by all the perspective entrepreneurs from different regions of Meghalaya including students, researchers and traditional healers.
