Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the Karbi Hemtun (Guest House) and also laid the foundation stone of 100-bed students’ hostel cum commercial building, here today.
This is seen as a significant step in fostering cooperation and development between Assam and Meghalaya.
“Today is another important day for our history,” Sarma said that expressed gratitude to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council for establishing the Karbi Hemtun, that would cater to the people from Karbi Anglong visiting Shillong.
He also thanked Sangma for being present on the occasion with and underscored the collaborative spirit between the two states.
Congratulating the people of Karbi Anglong, Sangma commended the inauguration of the guest house and the commencement of work on the hostel. He emphasized the significance of the event in fostering closer ties between Meghalaya and Assam.
Sangma highlighted the rich diversity of tribes and communities in the North East, expressing hope that the relationships between diverse groups would be strengthened. He underscored the importance of celebrating the unique diversity while cherishing the commonality of culture and traditions in the region.
Praising Sarma for ensuring equitable development across Assam, he said, “In the state of Assam, all different sections of society and all different areas and communities are getting the kind of support and attention that they deserve.” He commended that the event demonstrates his commitment to inclusive development.
