Health & Family Welfare and Agriculture Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh held a review meeting yesterday with the MLAs and civil servants of Ri-Bhoi.

The purpose of the meeting was to strategise and devise methods to enhance healthcare facilities and bolster the agricultural sectors, with a view to benefiting the residents of the district.

The review meeting was attended by legislators Sosthenes Sohtun of Jirang, Mayralborn Syiem of Nongpoh, Charles Marngar of Mawhati, Damanbait Lamare of Umroi and Dr Celestine Lyngdoh of Umsning. Additionally, Deputy Commissioner Arpit Uphadhaya and officials from the Health, Agriculture and Horticulture departments were also present.

Following the meeting, Ampareen expressed her satisfaction with the comprehensive discussions that transpired, addressing vital matters concerning the departments. The minister acknowledged the significance of Ri-Bhoi, which has been categorised as an ‘aspirational district’.

Ampareen revealed plans for the enhancement of community health centres (CHCs), primary health centres (PHCs) and sub-centres. Meanwhile, the agricultural sector’s deliberations revolved around the allocation of resources for additional food processing units and the identification of pineapple farmers.

Syiem expressed optimism that the solutions explored during the review meeting will bring tangible improvements.

Celestine encouraged residents to enroll for Aadhaar cards to avail the schemes provided by both the state and central governments. Of particular note was the mention of the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), emphasising its accessibility through proper registration.
