The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) and the Jaiñtia Youth Federation in East Jaiñtia Hills has questioned the continued load shedding in the district despite having sufficient water and rainfall.
“Scarcity of water and inadequate rainfall in the past has been cited as one of the primary reasons for load shedding in our district and the state. However, we have observed that there has been a steady supply of water and consistent rainfall in recent times. Therefore, it is perplexing to us and the local community why load shedding continues to persist, causing inconvenience and hindrance to daily activities,” the groups questioned.
In a joint letter to the Executive Engineer, Khliehriat Distribution Division the two pressure groups also sought answers on the increase in electricity bills despite frequent power cuts.
“Despite the regular power cuts, it has been noted that the billing amounts have seen a significant increase, which is causing distress and financial burden on the citizens. It is puzzling to comprehend the basis on which these are calculated when the supply is frequently interrupted,” they said.
Pointing out that that transparency and open communication are crucial in addressing these concerns, the two groups demanded the office to provide them with a written response within 10 working days.
“It is essential for the residents of East Jaiñtia and a state as whole to understand the situation and have confidence in the efforts being made to improve the power supply infrastructure,” the groups said.
