With Meghalaya convulsed by the hot topic of the state job reservation policy and roster system, a public discussion was held today in Nongpoh by local MLA Mayralborn Syiem to debate the issue.
The meeting was also attended by local MDC Balajied Rani, leaders of the Ri-Bhoi Dorbar, pressure group representatives and local residents.
Syiem organised the meeting to seek the views and opinions of locals about the demand to review the job reservation policy and the implementation of the roster system.
The consensus preferred a merging of the two quotas for the Garo and Khasi-Jaiñtia communities into one of 80 per cent and to implement the roster system prospectively.
Syiem said that he will submit these views to the state government, which has formed a committee to examine the issue in detail.
