The new school building of Tirot Sing Memorial Government Upper Primary School in Nongkhlaw was inaugurated today.
The building comprises of five classrooms which will accommodate more students aimed to create a spacious learning environment for both the students and teachers of the school.
Meghalaya State Planning Board Chairman and Local MLA, Metbah Lyngdoh attended the inauguration programme as the chief guest. He congratulated the school managing committee and the headmaster whose hard work and dedication has led to the inauguration of the new school building even as he stated that more needs to be done in order to further upgrade the school in terms of infrastructure and other amenities. For that to happen, the cooperation of all stakeholders is paramount, he added.
Lyngdoh also spoke of the various developments in the field of technology and the impact that it has had on the lives of the people while also calling upon students to make optimum use of the benefits that technology has to offer even as he cautioned them against embracing the bad sides of technology.
He also expressed hope that the newly inaugurated school building will facilitate further improvements in the teaching- learning process.
Eastern West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, G. Kharmawphlang in his speech urged teachers to identify the special talents and skills of their students at a young age in order to encourage them to further improve in both academics as also extra- curricular activities while also calling upon them to instill in the young minds the spirit of Tirot Sing Syiem who is not only a hero but an icon whose legacy is celebrated by the entire country.
Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, Pa’iem P.M Syiemlieh, District School Education Officer, West Khasi Hills District, L. Syiemlieh, Sub-Divisional School Education Officer, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, J. Thyrniang, Headmaster of the School, W.Warjri, traditional heads, teachers, students and people of the area were present on the occasion.
