The National Institute of Fashion Technology, Shillong, will host a two-day Craft Bazaar on March 16 and 17 at the NIFT campus in Umsawli Mawpat.
Inspired by the Swadeshi movement led by Mahatma Gandhi as part of the independence struggle, the event will showcase a diverse range of handlooms and handicrafts from the North East.
More than a dozen stalls will exhibit and sell exquisite works from 22 artisans and weavers from Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. Products will include bamboo cane, jewellery, handlooms, weaves, embroidery, dry flowers, black pottery and textiles.
Craft Bazaar 2023 is intended to promote and empower artisans, weavers and entrepreneurs of the North East. Haj Dodung, Director of Textiles and Handicrafts in Arunachal Pradesh, has consented to grace the occasion as chief guest, with the inaugural function to begin at 10am.
