Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organisation (MESO) of the Central Silk Board is conducting a five-day Muga Farmers Skill Training programme from today at P-3 Seed Station, Rompara, Resubelpara in North Garo Hills.
A total of 25 unemployed youth and some progressive Muga farmers from North Garo Hills attended the training programme. The training will conclude on January 21.
S A S Rahman, Scientist-D, RSRS, Central Silk Board was chief guest on the inaugural day of the training programme.
In his speech, Rahman explained how sericulture can generate employment through Muga culture. He also focused on how Muga culture activities have helped to curb the violence in North Garo Hills.
He was hopeful that traditionally practiced Muga culture will definitely improve the economic status of Garo Hills and generate new employment opportunities.
Sanre G. Momin, Zonal Officer, Garo Hills in her speech said that sound seed gives sound sericulture and she also discussed about the quality measure done in central and state farms.
Dr. Vikram Kumar, Scientist C, P-3 Unit, Rompara and organiser of this training programme discussed the objectives of this training programme. He also said that after completion the training certificate will be given to the trainees.
Nolligston Marak, Farm Supervisor, District Sericulture Office, West Garo Hills also spoke as a special guest.
The programme was followed by a technical programme where different scientists from Central Silk Board gave their valuable lecture to the trainees.
