A maiden contingent of 52 women commando warriors under SF-10 called the ‘Meghashakti’ were inducted in at a ceremony held here today.
“It is indeed a great day in the history of Meghalaya Police and what better year than the Golden Jubilee of the state to have our first women Commando Warriors of the SF10,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma remarked.
Calling it a red letter day for women of the State he said, “When we think of commandos, we think that only men can be in the forces. But the women have proved it wrong and they are second to none because they can take up any challenged that comes in front of them.”
He further congratulated the DGP and all other officials who have played a key role in initiating and ensuring that they are able to have the state’s first women commando warriors.
“Most importantly I congratulate the Meghashakti, I can only imagine the kind of training that you must have gone through and I’m sure each of you have been able to perform exceptionally well in those training programs, as we can see the kind of quality, discipline and synchronisation and all other activities you have performed today,” he said, adding, “I Can tell you that you will be able to give competition to your counterparts and other commandos there in the forces.”
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that Meghalaya police has travelled a long way in the last 50 years. He added that the police have shown their commitment and ability to deal with any situation that arises in the state.
“We know that the police have to work and manage despite shortage of manpower. Even then, I am very happy to see that they have been trying to manage within the capacity and we have seen many success stories within the Meghalaya Police,” he said.
DGP LR Bishnoi said that the change of women constable into commando is not that easy and require tremendous efforts. He said they have undergone one of the hardest training of their career so far.
