Police in East Jaiñtia Hills district have sought the cooperation of scrap shop owners to curb crime against property in Khliehriat.
A meeting to discuss on the issue was held yesterday between the officer-in charge of Khliehriat police station, officers and scrap shop owners.
It was decided that scrap shops will not buy any scrap metals which are of good quality except those which are rusted to ensure that such metals are not stolen goods. Similarly these shops will not buy any copper/copper wires from anybody who comes to sell such items in their shops and to inform the police on any suspicious seller.
The Officer -in-Charge also educated the shop owners on the provisions of law regarding theft and informed scrap shop owners that receiving any stolen property is a crime.
