The lack of a roster system is holding up recruitment to the police service, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said today.
On Monday, aspirants staged a sit-in to demand the declaration of police test results. They had applied for police jobs in 2019 but the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the hiring process in 2020. The physical efficiency test was then conducted in November 2021 and the written exams in February of this year. However, the results are yet to be declared.
Every government department needs to come up with a roster system to lay out the ways and means that job reservation is applied. Recruitment was halted earlier this year by the High Court until the state government arrived at a system for rostering to be applied to job reservations. The cabinet then hurriedly formed such a system but it has to be implemented department-wise as there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
The exam results have been prepared and, as soon as the roster system is complete, the results will be declared, Rymbui promised today.
“We want to fill up the vacant posts in the police department because it is very important for the security and safety of the state,” he said, adding that preparing a roster system is a massive exercise but it is on the verge of completion.
