A grocery shop cum rural outlet for Self Help Groups in East Jaiñtia Hills district was today inaugurated in Khliehriat.
The outlet belongs to the Iengskhem Village Organisation, which aims to provide greater visibility and a permanent presence for SHG products so that people can easily buy them.
East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Abhilash Baranwal who inaugurated the outlet thanked the headman for providing a place and congratulated the team from Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS), East Jaiñtia Hills District for their efforts in making it possible for setting up the rural outlet.
He informed that 15 SHGs can display and sell their locally made products to the people and said that based on the satisfactory response and sales, such outlets will also be opened in other major markets of the district.
In order to support progressive SHGs in marketing, a catalogue of the products manufactured and produced locally is also uploaded at the district website (https://eastjaintiahills.gov.in) along with the details and their contact numbers so that people can order the products directly by contacting the SHG members. He also urged the public to buy the SHG products as they are very good in quality and at an affordable price.
District Programme Manager, NRLM, K. Slong in his speech said that Iengskhem Village Organization has taken a great step in successfully implementing the model of rural outlet and hoped the initiative will be sustainable and fruitful to enhance the livelihood of the SHG members in the district
The program was attended by Wapung Block Development Officer, Dr. T Shylla, Khliehriat West headman, L. Bareh, former MLA J. Dkhar and members of the SHGs.
