The East Jaiñtia Hills district administration today reopened the toll plaza located in Lumshnong after it was forcefully kept under lock and key by the Khasi Students Union (KSU) since July 28.
The district administration had yesterday promulgated section 144 CrPC after the KSU refused to unlock the toll plaza in protest against the failure of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to maintain the NH 6.
Meanwhile, workers said shutting down of the toll plaza will affect them as they were told by the manager that will not get their salary for the days that it remained closed.
The workers said about 60 local youth are employed at the toll plaza and its forced closure would put them into hardships.
