The Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Ri Bhoi today celebrated the 94th foundation day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at its campus in Umiam along with 111 institute and 71 agricultural universities across the country.
KVK SMS (Fishery), Bankitkupar Mukhim highlighted the importance of the day. The farmers were also briefed the about ICAR, an autonomous organization under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
During the celebration, famers interacted with Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar online on doubling farmer’s income villages, that it, Umraleng and Madan Nonglakhiat.
Tomar during his address asked the premium farm research organisation ICAR to focus on improving productivity of various crops like oilseeds and pulses as yields are much below the global average.
He said the ICAR has played an important role in making India self-sufficient in foodgrain production and the country is either number one or two in terms of output of most crops.
